Nightmare on Norwood — Kelowna's most spooktacular haunted house

Every October, a quiet stretch of Norwood Road in Kelowna turns into something straight out of a horror film. Nightmare on Norwood started life as a Halloween party between a small group of friends. The decorating got so wildly elaborate that they decided to open the doors to the whole city — and nine years later, it has become one of the Okanagan's most-loved haunted houses.

We asked the folks behind the maze to spill the details. Here is everything you need to know before you go.

How did this all start?

Nightmare on Norwood is Kelowna's most spooktacular haunted house — and honestly, they have earned the brag. It began as a Halloween party among friends, but the decorating got so elaborate that they wanted to invite everyone in to enjoy it. Now it is a full walk-through haunted house that gratefully accepts donations for the Central Okanagan Food Bank.

What can visitors expect?

A fun and memorable evening. This is the ninth year running, and the display gets bigger and better every season. The walk-through takes about 15 minutes and winds through a whole cast of themed rooms — a Witches' Hut, a Dungeon, a Haunted Hotel, a Fun House, and much more.

The first hour of every night is family friendly. If jump scares are not your thing, that is the sweet spot to wander the themed rooms at your own pace. Feeling brave instead? Arrive later in the evening and you will meet some of Kelowna's best and scariest creature costumes.

Who is the event for?

Everyone, young and old. If you like getting into the spooky season, you will have a wonderful time.

Two practical notes: there are stairs — about four steps up and four steps down. And things get much scarier after the first hour, but if anyone in your group finds it too intense, just let the crew know and they will do their best to accommodate.
