Etsy Paused Canada Post US Shipping Labels: How Canadian Sellers Can Still Ship

Canadian Etsy sellers may see a US order and discover that the familiar Canada Post label is unavailable inside Etsy. That does not mean you must stop selling to American buyers.

It does mean the old workflow has changed, and you need to confirm current tariff, pricing, customs, and carrier requirements before shipping.

What Etsy changed

Etsy current help guidance says it suspended US-bound label purchases through Canada Post, Australia Post, and Evri effective August 25, 2025, after changes to US trade policy and carrier delivery options.

Etsy also says that, starting July 9, 2026, sellers shipping from outside the United States are expected to use Delivered Duty Paid, or DDP, for US orders to qualify for Etsy Purchase Protection. With DDP, applicable duties, taxes, and carrier fees are handled upfront rather than surprising the buyer at delivery.

Policies and carrier capabilities can change quickly. This article reflects information available on August 18, 2026. Verify Etsy Help and the carrier before every workflow change.

You can buy the label elsewhere

Etsy official international-shipping guidance lists third-party options for Canadian sellers, including ShipStation and Chit Chats, and identifies commonly used DDP carriers such as Canada Post, Chit Chats, DHL, FedEx, and UPS. Availability, eligibility, rates, and USMCA handling vary.

Choose a service that supports the required DDP process for your shipment. Confirm whether it can account for a potential United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement exemption when the goods actually meet the rules of origin. Do not assume that shipping from Canada makes a product Canadian-origin.

Update the Etsy order properly

After purchasing postage from an eligible external provider, add the carrier and tracking information to the Etsy order and mark it complete according to Etsy current instructions. Keep receipts, customs records, tracking, and proof of shipment.

Enter an accurate country of origin, customs description, declared value, and tariff classification. Etsy guidance says US-bound packages require the applicable 10-digit tariff number. Determining the correct classification and origin is the seller responsibility; seek qualified customs or tax advice when unsure.

Recheck your pricing

DDP costs can change the economics of a US sale. Estimate the product, packaging, postage, duty, brokerage or carrier fee, platform fee, payment processing, and expected return cost.

Etsy recommends considering US-specific pricing so duties and import costs can be reflected upfront. Communicate clearly that the price includes applicable import charges where accurate.

Build a repeatable checklist

Create a written process for carrier selection, product origin, tariff code, customs details, label purchase, tracking entry, customer communication, and record retention. Test it on a low-risk order before promoting US shipping heavily.

The Etsy label suspension changed the checkout path, not the existence of cross-border selling. Canadian shops can still serve US customers, but the winning approach is compliant, transparent, and priced for the full landed cost.

Keep the article itself updated

If you publish guidance on your store or business blog, display a visible last reviewed date and link to Etsy current help pages. Recheck the suspension status, DDP requirements, Purchase Protection terms, and recommended Canadian services regularly. Cross-border rules are not evergreen content. Updating one high-traffic guide is safer for customers than allowing an old tutorial to circulate after the workflow changes again.
