"I know I need to change something, I just do not know what." If you have ever said that about your career, you know the feeling. Everything is possible, which means nothing is obvious, which means nothing happens.
A local coach asked me to design the document that gets a client from that sentence to a first step.

The situation
The coach's process was strong but the output was a long email summarizing the session. Clients would read it once, feel motivated, and then lose it in their inbox. The thinking was good. The container was wrong.
What I built
A career direction and action plan, designed as a document a person is proud to keep. The first page, shown here, does three things:
- Names the direction. One sentence at the top. Not five options. The one they are testing first.
- Explains the why. Three short reasons this direction fits their strengths, constraints, and life. This is the part they reread when doubt shows up.
- Lists the first moves. Numbered, dated, small. "Email two people who do this job" is a first move. "Figure out my future" is not.
The design borrows from good editorial layout: a strong headline, a clear hierarchy, generous margins. It feels like a personal brief, not a form. That tone matters when the subject is someone's life.
Why it works
Clients started bringing the document back to sessions with notes on it. That is the whole game. A plan that gets annotated is a plan that is being used. The coach also found it easier to sell her packages, because prospects could see a real example of what they would walk away with.
The takeaway for your business
If your service ends in advice, give the advice a body. A designed document survives the inbox, gets shown to spouses and friends, and quietly markets you every time it is opened.
